Hi, everyone! I would like to introduce myself this one time only in English(-;
I am Madame Roy. I live in Gatineau and I will be your child's grade 4 French immersion teacher this year. I am coming back from a sabbatical leave and it is with a renewed energy and many ideas that I come back to St.James. During my year away I had the chance to travel to Australia, to teach a few months in Myanmar, and to discover the East and West Coast of Canada (this picture was taken in Vancouver and the above in Halifax).
I am delighted to see that I already taught many of my students in KP a few years ago! I have wonderful memories of them. I still only speak French in the classroom!! Trust that eventually your child will also be trying to speak only French... Trying is important and mistakes are not...we learn from them!!! Mixing English and French is WONDERFUL because your child is trying. As the year progresses, he/she will we learn from them and hopefully will use less and less English words(-:
As a teacher, I believe in cooperation and collaboration with my students and you, their parents. We are all a team for this coming school year. Your encouragement, your support, and assistance will make a world of difference in your child's learning journey. I will try my best to give your child a positive and fulfilling learning experience in immersion this year. Emphasis will be put on oral communication, listening skills, team work and inquiry to enable students to become risk takers when speaking French. A language is only alive and useful when we can SPEAK it and communicate with others.
As well, the atmosphere of the classroom is most important. A climate of respect for oneself and others has to be present at all times. I strongly believe in treating others the way we would like to be treated, and I am confident that we all share these same goals and values. We will spend lots of time in September to build together our classroom rules, and to talk about bullying, differences and acceptation.
My dream is to build an extended family in gr.4 where everyone will strive to value all traditions, unique personalities and contributions that each individual brings to our family.
Thank you for your support, trust, and collaboration during the 2016-2017 school year. Please take the time to read the PARENT GUIDE (at the top of this page). This guide will help you to support your child through his/her immersion "adventure" starting this year. Looking forward to seeing you on Program Night. (-:
